Description
A short project that I didn't end up finishing.

I wanted to post what I did get done, but the game doesn't have a proper ending. Always looking for criticism wherever.

Postmortem - 6/24/2021
This game was part of a personal one hour, one day, one week challenge. I had one week to make a game from start to finish. I was a bit too ambitious with this one, and ended up running out of time. This is missing a title screen and a win screen at very least.

My focus on this project was learning how to compose music, and integrate it into the game. I created a fairly simple song that progresses as the game does. I took this idea a bit further and had a lot of elements progress as you get further in, the sky darkens, the fire behind you creeps closer, and the level starts moving faster.

I tried going for a retro stylized look, but not sure where exactly the inspiration came from. I feel like it reminds me of some old game system, but can't place it. At the time I was pretty proud of the asteroid falling animation, I used a trick I found in my Blitz game where I place the asteroid instantly then fade out an afterimage to imply movement. Looking at it now though it seems a bit hard on the eyes.

A lot of this game was built around the single moment when the first asteroid crashes down. I made the music go quiet just before, and timed a symbol crash with it. I wanted the game to be a bit deceptive, appearing to be a bit too easy before that moment, then get frantic.

A small detail I really liked was the inclusion of the rabbits. You squish them if you step on them, but this does nothing. A player could make a personal goal to either avoid them all or squish them all.

I like the detail I put into the effects for this game, but ultimately this game was unfinished. From this game forward I put a lot more effort into planning my projects to make sure they are functional standalone games.
