Description

Non-game app created to run on an Android mini pc. This application interfaces with the cinema's point of sales system to retrieve session data and display it in a professional way, automating a job they previously needed an employee to tend to.

Web version included for display. Not designed rescaling.

Development Process - 3/2/2022

I began this project partially as an excuse to learn how web APIs work and to learn how to use unity's web request functions. This simple layout ended up being a huge improvement over the existing showtime display at the cinema, which was difficult to read and had to be updated manually multiple times per week. I also chose to add in a few extra effects such as times updating to show what has already started, and a display for the film posters.

I began by researching the API associated with the cinemas point of sale system as well as how web requests are made in unity. Pulling the data was a pretty straightforward process but a lot of the project was dedicated to organizing the data in a way that worked well for the application.

I decided to add in a request for the poster data as well to liven up the display, and I designed the times to look professional and be as easy to read as possible. This was compiled to run on an Android device for the box office monitors.

All in all I am pretty happy with how this turned out, it was a massive improvement over what the cinema had been using prior and it impressed the management team and owners.
